This is a 3-session class that meets on consecutive weeks (the sessions are exactly one week from the previous session at the same time, ex: Saturdays at 10:30am).
Our Intro to Electrical class is designed for the diy-minded apartment dweller or homeowner. We’ll cover basic electrical work that most people can do on their own and discuss when to call in a professional.
Day 1: Participants will get an overview of residential electrical set up, including how power is brought into a home and how wires are distributed throughout. Then we’ll move to the workshop and practice stripping wires and connecting outlets, switches and fixtures.
Days 2 & 3: Participants will work in teams to run wire and install a fixture in a practice wall. We’ll cover 3-way switches, dimmers and smart switches. Participants will learn how to mount electrical boxes and make proper connections for the type of wire being used. Participants will learn how to measure, cut and bend conduit. We’ll cover specialized tools; testing equipment, fish tape, conduit bender etc.
Our instructor is Dean “Coach” Rennie. Dean has many years of experience training in the construction trades and has a wealth of tips, tricks and helpful advice to share.
