4-Week Intermediate Woodworking Part 2: Furniture Build SECTION 2 CHICAGO

02/09/2024 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm CST

Continue your furniture designing journey with furniture building!

Part 1, Furniture Design, is 4 sessions and will be held on January 11, 18, 25 & February 1, 2024.

Part 2, Furniture Build, is 4 sessions and participants will choose ONE section. Section ONE will be held February 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 6:00-9:00pm. Section TWO will be held February 9, 16, 23 & March 1 from 3:00-6:00pm.

A good design is key to making a woodworking project turn out the way you imagined. Even a seemingly simple project takes planning.

Furniture Design & Build is a 2-part class for the beginning woodworker interested in building foundational skills OR the experienced woodworker interested in learning best practices in design. All participants in the class will design a simple side table that is a maximum of 36”x 36”.

In Part 1, Furniture Design, participants will learn the key principles of good furniture design then sketch out their own design for a simple side table. They will choose materials from the warehouse and learn how their material choices affect their designs. Then they will turn their initial sketch into a detailed drawing and cross-section drawing, ultimately resulting in a building plan and cut list. No fancy software required, we’re going old school with pencil and paper.

In Part 2, Furniture Build, participants will put their plan into action and construct their table using their plans and materials. They will walk away with a piece of furniture they took from concept through creation.

Students interested in BOTH designing and building their projects in class should purchase tickets for Part 1 Design AND Section 1 OR Section 2 of Part 2 Build. Students interested ONLY in design should purchase a Part 1 Design ticket only.

Build tickets include $45 for materials. If students choose to use premium warehouse materials they will be charged for the difference in cost.
